Women in tech leadership privacy policy

Women in Tech Leadership (“we”, “our”, “us”) is committed to protecting online visitors’ (“you”, “your”) privacy when using or accessing www.witleadership.com (“the Site”). This privacy statement (“Privacy Statement”) explains how we collect and use personal information that is provided voluntarily by you so that we can offer more information about employment opportunities and/or services to you. This Privacy Statement also identifies how we protect information collected from (1) the web pages of the Site or any other website with respect to which this Privacy Statement is posted or linked, (2) downloadable applications accessed from mobile devices, such as LinkedIn, Google Mail, Google Chrome, Safari etc. with respect to which this Privacy Statement is posted or linked (“Mobile Apps”) or (3) any other mode of interaction relating to our communications, such as online newsletters, emails, surveys, contact forms, etc., that reference this Privacy Statement (“Communication”). By using the Site or Mobile Apps, or receiving Communications, you agree to the use of such information in accordance with this Privacy Statement.

 

If you prefer that we not collect and process information about you, please do not provide it to us and do not access the Site. We want to provide a safe and secure user experience. We ensure the information you submit to us remains private and is only used for the purposes set out in this policy.

 

Collection of Personal Information

 

Shared Personal Information

When you use this Site, you may voluntarily provide personal information, which includes your name, company, title, and email address. For example, you may provide this information to us when you register for a Women in Tech Leadership event, apply to participate in our mentoring program, fill out surveys, sign up for our email list, send us an email, or otherwise provide information to us. When you send us an inquiry through the “Contact Us” section of this Site, we obtain your name, company, phone number, e-mail address and other information. We also obtain Personal Information during walk-in registrations for events. We also may collect additional Personal Information from you from time to time through e-mail correspondence, and through other online means.


When you submit personal information via the Site or Mobile Apps, such as e-mail, or an inquiry through the “Contact Us” section of this Site (i.e., to request Communications about specific areas of interest), we may obtain personal information and may collect additional information from you from time to time through e-mail correspondence. Depending on the specific Communication you are receiving, or the web page of the Site or Mobile App you are using, such information may consist of your name, current job title, company, phone number, e-mail address and any additional information which is necessary during time of entry.

Automatically Collected Information

When using a Mobile App to view the Site, in addition to contact information, we or mobile service providers or platforms may also collect information relating to your device, including your device model, operating system, browser type, IP address, mobile phone number, mobile network carrier, location, which pages you visit on the Site, and the way you are using the Mobile App. If any other information is collected relating to your use of a Mobile App, such information will be specified in the Mobile App. This technical data is used to measure and improve the effectiveness of the Site, to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer the Site, to see where Site traffic is coming from and to identify our users. We may also collect other non-personally identifiable information via the Site, such as Site usage activity and preferences, also known as demographic or profile data.

We may also collect personal information if you submit Personal Information through a third-party social platform account (i.e., LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter). For example, the Site or Mobile App may allow you to login using your social network account credentials. We may collect the username associated with that social media account and any information or content you have permitted the social media platform to share with us, such as your profile picture, e-mail address, and birthday. The information we collect may depend on the privacy settings you have with the social platform, so please review the privacy statement or policy of the applicable social platform. When you access the Site or Mobile Apps through your social network account, you are authorizing us to collect and use your information in accordance with this Privacy Statement.

 

We use automated devices and applications (“Service Providers”), such as Google Analytics and LinkedIn Analytics, to evaluate usage of our Sites. Technical data collected from these sites are used to measure and improve the effectiveness of this Site, to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer this Site, to see where Site traffic is coming from and to identify our users. We may use other analytical means to evaluate our Sites and services. We use these tools to help us improve the Site performance, effectiveness, and user experiences.

 

In some instances, this Site or Service Providers may use cookies and other tracking technologies to automatically collect certain types of information when you visit us online, as well as through emails that we may exchange. We do not share your personal information with these third parties.

To provide website visitors with more choice on how their data is collected by Google Analytics, Google has developed the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. The add-on communicates with the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js) to indicate that information about the Site visit should not be sent to Google Analytics. The Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on does not prevent information from being sent to the Site itself or to other web analytics services.

Other Non-Personally Identifiable Information

We may also collect other non-personally identifiable information via the Site, though we do not typically seek to collect sensitive content, such as Site usage and activity, Site preferences (i.e., demographic or profile data), data relating to race or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, political opinions, medical or health conditions, or information specifying the sex life or sexual orientation of an individual from users. We will, where necessary, obtain your explicit consent to collect and use such information.

 

Use of Personal Information

 

Your personal information is not used for other purposes, unless we obtain your permission, or unless otherwise required or permitted by law or professional standards.

We collect and use your personal information with your consent to provide you with access to the Site, Mobile Apps and Communications, or where we have a legitimate business or recruiting matter or other legal basis for such collection and use. Personal information provided is used only for specific purposes, such as:

  • To respond to your requests that you submit via e-mail, our “Contact Us” web page, LinkedIn survey or form or other Communications;

  • To process your requests and deliver requested materials and information;

  • To contact you when requesting further information on our services;

  • To provide updates, surveys and other content that may relate to Women in Tech Leadership events and/or mentorships;

  • To engage in statistical analysis, research and other analytical activities provided by Google Analytics or LinkedIn Analytics; and,

  • To carry out other purposes disclosed at the time of collection or submission.
     

 We may contract with other companies or individuals (“Service Partners”) to provide you the services that you request from us or to otherwise operate this Site or our business activities. ”). These services may include, among other things, providing products or services to you on our behalf, creating or maintaining our databases, payment processing, preparing distribution communications or responding to inquiries. Such companies may be given access to your Personal Information for their use in connection with those purposes on our behalf. Our policy is to inform our Service Partners not to use or disclose your Personal Information for any purpose other than for providing services to/with us.

 

From time to time, we may be required to provide Personal Information in response to a court order, subpoena, government investigation, or as otherwise required by law. We also reserve the right to report to law enforcement agencies any activities that we, in good faith, believe to be unlawful, and to disclose any information concerning you as necessary or appropriate to satisfy any law, regulation or other governmental request, to operate the Site properly, or to protect or defend our rights or the rights or well-being of our users or if you are involved (or are reasonably suspected to be involved) in any illegal or harmful activity, even without a subpoena, warrant or court order. We may release certain Personal Information when we believe that such release is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, and safety of others and ourselves. Your personal information may also be used to protect our rights or property and that of our users.

 

We may also contact you to seek feedback on services provided or for market or other research purposes. You may at any time request that we discontinue sending you Communications, e-mails, or other correspondence.

 

Personal Information Retention

 

We retain personal information as necessary for the duration of the purpose outlined in this Privacy Statement. Notwithstanding the duration of the purpose, we may retain your information, if necessary, to comply with our legal or professional obligations, enforce our agreements, or resolve disputes.

 

We also make reasonable efforts to retain personal information only for so long (1) as the information is necessary to comply with an individual’s request, (2) as necessary to comply with legal, regulatory, internal business or policy requirements, or (3) until that person asks that the information be deleted. The period for which data is retained will depend on the specific nature and circumstances under which the information was collected; however, subject to the requirements of (1)-(3) above, personal information will not be retained for more than 5 years.

 

Disclosure of Information to Third Parties

 

This Privacy Statement only addresses the use and disclosure of information collected by us through your interaction with the Site and the Mobile Apps and through other interactions with us relating to a Communication. Other websites or mobile apps that may be accessible through links from the Communications, Site, or Mobile Apps have their own privacy statements and personal information collection, use and disclosure practices.

 

We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the privacy statements provided by these other parties prior to providing them with information.

 

Your Personal Information may also be disclosed to other third parties as this Site, our services, and our materials may contain references or links to third-party websites and services. Except as described above regarding Service Providers, we do not control what information third parties track or collect. Any access to and use of such third-party websites and services is not governed by this Privacy Statement but instead is governed by the privacy policies of those third parties. We are not responsible for the information practices of such third parties.

 

In relation to Mobile Apps, we may share your usage and personal information with service platforms, as well as any other entities described in any Mobile App in connection with the operation of the Mobile App.

 

In relation to Communications, we may share your personal information with Service Providers in connection with the delivery of such Communications.

 

All disclosures may involve the transfer of personal information to areas without data protection rules similar to those in effect in your area of residence. By providing information with respect to a Communication or through the Site or Mobile Apps, you are consenting to the disclosures described above.

 

Any personal information that we have referenced above under “Collection of Personal Information” may be disclosed to the third parties identified in this section for the purposes set forth herein.

 

Information Sharing and Privacy Practices of Third Parties

 

Under the below circumstances may we share your personal information, with your consent or as disclosed to you:

  • With other Women in Tech Leadership members in good standing, through board meetings, mentoring program, and/or other services;

  • Third party Service Providers that assist us, such as venues where we host events, virtual platforms for hosting virtual meetings, and for other operational services;

  • Pursuant to a court order, subpoena, warrant, or when otherwise required by law, or in response to a law enforcement request; and,

  • To protect our rights and the rights or safety of third parties, including to protect the security and integrity of the Site.

 

If you decide to participate in social sharing features of the site, such as by commenting on a blog post, the information you provide will be available to other Women in Tech Leadership members and/or the general public.

 

Your Rights and Control of Personal Information

 

You have choices about how your personal information is collected, used, and shared. Depending on the jurisdiction in which you are located, you may have the right to request that we modify, delete, or stop processing your personal information, and you may also have the right to request that we provide the following information regarding the personal information we hold about you:

 

  • The categories and/or specific pieces of personal information we collected;

  • The categories of sources from which personal information is collected;

  • The business or commercial purpose for collecting personal information; and,

  • The categories of third parties with whom we shared personal information.

 

You have the right to object to us processing your personal information if we are not entitled to use it anymore. You have the right to have your information deleted if we are keeping it too long, have its processing restricted in certain circumstances and/or to obtain copies of information we hold about you in electronic form.

 

You can make a request or exercise these rights by contacting us at womenintechleadership@gmail.com and we will make all reasonable and practical efforts to comply with your request, so long as it is consistent with applicable law and professional standards.

 

For certain personal information requests, we must first verify your identity before processing your request. To do so, we may ask you to provide us with your full name, contact information, and relationship to us. Depending on your request, we may ask you to provide additional information. Once we receive this information, we will then review it and determine whether we are able to match it to the information we maintain about you to verify your identity.

 

If you would like to opt out of receiving promotional or marketing e-mail from us, you may use the “unsubscribe” mechanism included in each marketing message. You may let us know by sending us an email to womenintechleadership@gmail.com with REMOVE in the subject line and stating the e-mail address you wish to be removed from our mailing list.

 

Visitors from Outside of the United States

 

The Site is hosted in the United States. If you are visiting the Site from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable US laws. Please note that data protection and other applicable laws of the United States may not be as comprehensive as those laws or regulations in your country or may otherwise differ from the data protection or consumer protection laws in your country. By using the Site, you consent to transfer of your information to our facilities as described in this Privacy Policy and acknowledge that your information may be subject to access by law enforcement and other government entities, including courts and tribunals, in accordance with laws applicable in those jurisdictions.

We have implemented reasonable safeguards designed to protect your information from loss, misuse, alteration, or destruction. Despite our best efforts, however, security cannot be absolutely guaranteed against all threats. To the best of our ability, access to your personal information is limited to those who have a need to know. Those individuals who have access to the data are required to maintain the confidentiality of such information.

 

Without limiting any other terms that apply to our Site and this Privacy Statement, you understand that we cannot guarantee that your personal information will be private or secure.

 

Except to the extent provided by law, we are not responsible or liable to you for any lack of privacy or security you may experience. Children’s Privacy Protection

 

We understand the importance of protecting children’s privacy, especially in an online environment. Communications, the Site and Mobile Apps are not designed for or intentionally targeted at children under the age of 13. It is not our policy to intentionally or knowingly collect or maintain information about anyone under the age of 13. If we obtain actual knowledge that we have received such information, we will take steps to delete it immediately.
